Can't stand the wind September 8, 2008 S. Wang (USA) Pros: Easy to operate. Light weight. SPF 50 Cons: Can not stand windy condition at the beach. I was at Maui with this tent and the wind kept knocking it to one side. I've moved it to create a wind tunnel, but it will bend every time the wind changed direction. Weak poles. The pole joint broke after the first day under windy condition. Large in size. This might be personal thing, but the size of the tent inside the carrier was very long. I had to check it in as another bag at the airport, which cost another $35 for the extra luggage.
Excellent product August 31, 2008 Andrew Elliot (Ohio) This tent worked exactly as advertised. Easy to put up and take down. We vacationed on the Florida beaches in early August with a 15 week old and the Abo Tent was perfect. Not only did it provide protection from the sun for the baby, but it was large enough for the rest of the family to fit in. The vents and sides that open allow excellent air flow. Many people on the beach approached us to inquire regarding where we purchased the tent. The only two knocks on the product are: 1.When collapsed and in its carry bag it is too big to fit in a suitcase. We flew to Florida and had to check it as a separate piece. It made the trip down and back with no damage so that was a fairly solid test of its durability. 2.The height does not allow chairs to fit inside it, so you end up sitting on the floor of the tent. Not a big negative but some might feel that is an issue. Overall I would highly recommend this product.
Deja Vu? I already reviewed this tent... August 14, 2008 T. Connolly (USA) Easy set up if you follow the insructions. 3 days at beach in wind and it never "collapsed" once. Just tie a knot in the strings you use to pull the tent up into position.
Works great if you use your head!! August 5, 2008 M. Lewis (New Jersey) First, try opening at home so you understand how it works. I did that with the wind still & it was easy once I understood it. On the beach, it was very windy, so it was very hard to do at first (and kinda funny). But I had my wife lie in it & I was able to secure it no problem. The kids help put the sand in the pockets & it stayed up the whole time. Next time, I think it would be easiest to fold down the legs, put the pegs in & then open it. I'm pretty strong, so I was able to get the pegs all the way into the sand, but if you are older or not as strong, you may want to bring a small hammer. Lightweight, roomy, excellent sun protection. With sides down (can also be pegged in) it's enormous - plenty of room for a family of 4. You won't even need a blanket or beach chairs. Down in seconds (leave it pegged in until you collapse it). Fantastic product - a bargain at that price!!!
Tie a KNOT!!! August 5, 2008 T. Connolly (USA) This shelter is easy to set up and take down. I just got back from 3 days at the beach and it was fairly windy and it worked fine. I read the reviews of people who said it kept collapsing and was a bit nervous but all you have to do is tie the two ropes used to pull the tent up into position in a knot at the top as per the directions. Mine held up fine. The first day I used the stakes and filled the side pockets with sand. The second day stakes alone worked fine. Beach chairs, which are a bit lower than your standard backyard aluminum chairs, fit comfortably with plenty of head room. Finally, the best feature was the TWO openings/doorways. It CAN get stuffy in these things and when it does you open the other door half way and its like being under an umbrella... it airs out immediately. Hard to do with tents with one door.
