Works September 23, 2008 Greg Kullberg (Plymouth, MA USA) I bought the DicaPac WP300 about a year ago for a trip to Cozumel. As the instructions say, I tested it out ahead of time by putting some tissues in the pouch and submerging it under water to see if there were any leaks. It was fine, but I still was a bit cautious so I used my older Canon PowerShot S500 instead of my newer one. I was impressed. It was a little tricky at times getting the lens to line up so that it didn't catch the side of the opening on the case (leaving a slightly black corner to some of the photos when it did), but I was able to take some awesome photos and video. My friend who has the same model put some packing foam inside of his to keep his camera perfectly aligned all the time, but I never got around to it. During a week of daily usage it never leaked once and I came back from the trip with a bunch of amazing underwater photos that I never would have taken otherwise. Most of the time I never took it below 3 or 4 feet, but on some occasions I swam down to about 10 or 12 feet and it was still fine. For the price it can't be beat, as there are some really expensive models out there. One complaint I have is that after not a lot of use the velcro began to separate from the plastic pouch a bit. This could probably be fixed with a little bit of glue, but if I didn't fix it water still probably wouldn't get in as there is a zip-lock style closing just beyond it. Overall it's a great buy. You get far better photos (and video) than you would with any disposable underwater camera, and the price is great. My only suggestion would be to try it out on an older camera just in case something drastic were to happen that you wouldn't want to happen to an expensive camera. I'm looking forward to using it again.
Survived 3 days of snorkeling and a shark adventure September 9, 2008 Slabystrasse (Greenville, SC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
We just got back from Hawaii and this case survived 3 days of snorkeling and a shark adventure trip without letting in a drop of water. I'm glad that I got this instead of the hard plastic case which costs about 5 times more. During the snorkeling trips I used it mostly in shallow water with occasional dives to about 6-8 ft for closer shots and the case worked quite well. The shark adventure trip we went on was a good test as the sea was rough and we were being swept from one side of the cage to the other the whole time, I tried to keep the camera away from the bars but it still took a few hits, also the waves put a lot of pressure on the case and tension on its cord and they both passed the test. The picture quality: Underwater, pretty good, only problem is the occasional shade from the wall of the objective; Above water, good, 3/5, the droplets that remain on the surface right in front of the lens are hard to get rid of and create a problem, some of my pictures had areas that were blurry or foggy. One major problem I have (hence 4 stars, not 5) is the difficulty of operating the wheel dial on my Canon SD700IS to switch between shooting modes. Because I don't want to damage the plastic case I don't use my fingernail to turn the wheel and it's pretty difficult to turn it in any other way, especially when you are underwater. Most of the time I just set it to scene mode and then use the push button to change the function mode from underwater to beach and then back, but sometimes I want to record movies for which I have to turn the wheel dial. A minor problem is the loose fit but that's due to the semi-universal sizing of the case and was to be expected. It is slightly larger than my SD700IS, not a perfect fit and sometimes when I turn on the camera the lens can't extend all the way because the camera is not positioned well in the case and it gives me lens error which goes away when I turn it off and then turn it back on. So, would I recommend this product? I guess it depends on the camera that you are going to use it with. For Canon SD700IS (or any other similarly sized camera), yes, absolutely! Just be aware that you will not be able to use all the functions of your camera as easily as you would without the case.
Waterproof but difficult to use, better off buying an Olympus 850 or better. August 31, 2008 norcalsurfer (San Diego, CA. USA) With a Canon SD-600, it very difficult to keep the camera's lens in the center of the Dicapac housing which results in most pictures of video capturing the rubber outter ring. good but fragile July 31, 2008 Olga (USA) This case fits both of my digital cameras (canon s410 and sd1000). It kept all the water and sand out and droplets on the lens were not a huge problem. I did have a few images that had a drop on them but that was because the camera came directly out of the water or it was raining on the lens. Many of the images had black marks that cut off 2 corners (bottom 2 or top 2) of the pictures because the camera lens wasn't in the exact center of the case lens. Not a big deal I just have to crop the image. The biggest issue I had was after my husband dropped the camera about 12 inches, a tiny hole developed and began to leak. I had to find a pool repair kit and patch up the camera case. Overall, it is worth having if you are going to use it lightly, but if you want a real underwater case you're going to have to spend the big bucks. Aside: -I never took the camera more than three feet underwater. The manufacturer says it can go 15 feet deep, but I don't know if it really can. -The case works well with buttons, but is difficult to use with anything else like a dial or a switch that needs to move to side to side.
flash issues July 24, 2008 H. Permashwar (New York) I took this product on a white water rafting trip with me and it worked well after i realized a few things and corrected them. There are a few issues buyers should be aware off. 1. Make sure you buy the right size pack for your camera, i bought a size one too big and it made it a little clumsy to use. 2. When you put your camera in the pack make sure you take off your camera strap, i found the strap got in the way of the lenses and since its enclosed in the pack, it was hard to move out of the way. 3. I have a canon SD450 camera, i found when the camera flashed the Black hard plastic housing for the lenses would get in the way of the flash and white out the picture. Otherwise for the price it worked well!
