How tough is tough? Tough enough to survive drops up to 6.6 feet. Tough enough to be waterproof all the way down to 33 feet (and yes, you can even take pictures underwater). Tough enough to be freezeproof down to -10 C/14 F. But besides muscle, it has the brains to make getting great pictures so easy that even a kid can use it. It is also versatile enough with a 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom and sharp enough at 10.1 megapixels to take pictures you will love to show family and friends. Equivalent to a 28mm wide-angle to 102mm telephoto zoom on a 35mm camera, the Stylus 1030SW's zoom range is ideal for landscapes, group shots, portraits, candids, and travel photography. This is the camera that you don't have to be afraid to take with you anywhere you go. Stop missing out on all those memories because you're afraid to bring a delicate camera with you. The durable Olympus 1030SW is perfect for taking photos while snorkeling, fishing, boating, water-skiing, swimming, mountain biking, skiing, sunbathing at the beach, frolicking at a water-park, singing in the rain or enjoying any other outdoor activity that might subject your camera to water, snow, sand, dirt, or mud. ♦ The Transcend 4GB microSDHC Memory Card is large enough to hold hundreds and hundreds — a whole vacation's worth — of pictures. ♦ The spare replacement Li-50B Rechargeable Battery will enable you to shoot twice as much for twice as long — so that you won't miss that once-in-a-lifetime picture. ♦ This value-packed Olympus Stylus 1030SW Kit will help give you the family, nature, and vacation photos you've always wanted.

Excellent camera August 15, 2008 J. Murre It is really as strong as they claim. I had a couple of kids throw it around and stand on it. And it still works. Also great for taking shots in the pool or in the rain. I am happy with the quality of the pictures. The extra battery is very handy to have, especially when taking many flash shots. Also, you can charge one, while using the other. Only minus point: The 4 GB memory included in the package is not fully compatible, which means that the Olympus camera refuses to activate certain functions in the menu, such as panoramic in-camera shots. The memory works great for other functions though, including video.
Best all around camera I've ever had. July 16, 2008 N. Walz (Sebring, Florida USA) My big cameras have their place. Pocket cameras are short on flash power and data capture in low light, but for a camera you will have no problem taking with you, this is as good as it gets. For many years, my pocket or the car arm rest contained my Sony Cybershot. With it, I've caught on camera a Florida black panther, an albino Florida deer, and lots of great family shots. When I saw the ad for the Olympus and had my three youngest grandsons coming for a week. I had to buy it. I could take it underwater, which I did immediately, with the boys in the pool. I took it camping and wading in the mountain streams, While fishing in Florida, one grandson's line went across the nose of a 4 ft alligator. I had my Olympus handy as always, so now I have a movie of the gator taking the bait, and I filmed as it went under, came up, broke the line and disappeared. The Olympus is a bit heavier than the Sony and a bit thicker, but it's many great features and ease of use make it my pick for years to come.
