I have owned and reviewed their previous albums.
To see where they've come since 2004 is awesome. So many bands never make this progression and get stuck in their own perceived style. Their first album showed flashes of brilliance (But it was so acoustic driven the songs started to sound the same). From there they have made it to 2008 with this polished CD that still contains hints of their first CD without remaining in the past, yet building on the past 3 giving you this great accomplishment.
In fact as I have been listening to their first album again, I truly believe that if they had a decent band behind them it too would have gotten 4-5 stars.
No Really, I'm Fine is a great compilation of lyrics, feeling, sound and emo. It's great. And if you think this album is great, then go see them in concert. I honestly wasn't expecting much from these guys, as I went to it mainly to see Matt Nathanson. Man was I pleasantly surprised. These guy put on a great show. Talk about energy. They are serious about their music and it shows in their concerts.

This album has grown on me since day one. Slowly but surely. I now shameless listen to it from start to finish. I continue to look for big things from these guys.
 Amazing, but not perfect November 1, 2007

As always The Spill Canvas has amazing vocals and great music, on top of having a bunch of new songs they also have a new version of "Saved" (originally on the Superman Returns soundtrack) that is better than the original. The only thing I did not like was the new version of "Appreciation and the bomb" the music was different and it doesn't have all the words of the original (which is from their 5 song ep "Denial feels so good."

The CD itself is in great condition but the case was cracked. Considering it was a new CD and I pre-ordered it, I expected it to be in better condition that that.

For those fans who have fallen in love with past songs such as Lust a Prima Vista, Sunsets and Car Crashes, The Tide, and so many others this album will tend to be lacking. While I wouldn't go as far as to say that The Spill Canvas has "Sold Out", this album has taken a direct turn towards pleasing a more mainstream crowd and has less of a unique sound as they have had in the past. While there are a couple of great songs such as Connect the Dots, which I would say is one of their best songs, the rest of the album is just mediocre at best. Even some great sounding songs such as Lullaby take a turn for the worse when melodies of trumpets and violins are incorporated into the mix and the lyrics across the entire album are a disappointment. In all honesty I was so excited to buy this album and now that I have it I barely listen to it. While The Spill Canvas may have gained a more popular fan base I feel for the rest of us, the ones who belt our hearts out to so many of their songs, that this album will just be merely one or two more songs added to our old playlists and nothing more...
